What is the Dress Code for Las Vegas Nightclubs?

What is the Dress Code for Las Vegas Nightclubs?

Imagine the thought you walked up to the front door of the hottest Las Vegas nightclub like Omnia or Hakkasan, only to get turned away after waiting patiently in line for an hour.

Ouch.

Sadly, this isn’t just a thought experiment for the imagination.

No.

This is the harsh reality and the exact thing that happens nightly to nightclub guests that don’t meet the dress codes. So much so, that we’d even go as far to say that most new visitors to Vegas are unaware that what they wear to a high-end nightclub will be a key determining factor on whether you’re even allowed in.

Unfortunately, this isn’t information shared with most visitors. And it continues to be a shame to see guests singled out in line and then rejected by the bouncer at the ropes due to a dress code violation. Even more frustrating is that this can happen to anyone, male or female, and to those on the guest list or who have a bottle service reservation. So it’s definitely a guaranteed way to ruin any night.

Thankfully, most of the nightclubs in Vegas follow many of the same principles, even though none of them use an exact science. Either way, this guide and the tips outlined below will ensure you won’t have any issues getting past the velvet ropes and having a great night inside. And you’ll be ready to breeze through any of the top venues here in town without fear.

Nightlub Dress Code – Women/Ladies

Ladies, you want to feel comfortable dancing freely and look sexy in your outfit of choice. But, you have a lot of options when it comes to outfits since nightclubs ultimately want to attract you to their venues. And it’s fair to say there are very few dress code rules because of this.

So if you’re confident, you can almost get away with anything you want to wear that night. The only exceptions are sandals, flip-flops, and flats since they’re frowned upon by other ladies.

That said, you can wear something as bold as a glitter cocktail dress with 5-inch pumps or stiletto heels. But you can easily wear something more practical like well-fitted jeans or dress pants and a cute top. Either way, you should really wear something comfortable, fitted, and that makes you feel confident.

The last thing you want is an uncomfortably short skirt that rides you all night. And worst is a pair of heels that make your feet ache when just standing in line. These kinds of outfits are a sure way to ruin part of your experience.

However, I will say that if you do come with a large group and you all splurge on upscale nightlife attire, it’ll pay off. You can easily get escorted to the front of the line and often get in without paying a cover on off-nights. So if that’s the game plan, it could be worth it.

Nightclub Dress Code – Men/Guys

Okay, guys, all Vegas nightclubs want us to wear upscale but casual attire. But unlike the ladies, nightclubs are brutal about the dress code standards for us. So read this closely.

Essentially, they want us to dress to impress, which makes sense considering they will bring us the most gorgeous women on earth. Still, what exactly does “dress to impress” mean? This can sound a bit ambiguous, I get it. So to make it simple, they want us to wear business casual attire.

This means the general strategy is to wear clean, well-fitting, trendy clothing. So don’t even consider wearing any sports or athletic clothing. Those will immediately be red flags to the bouncers and get you singled out.

Instead, you can’t go wrong wearing a fitted pair of jeans or slacks, dress shoes, and a clean button-up shirt with a sports coat over the top. And that would be our recommended go-to outfit for 95% of guys coming to Vegas for their first time.

That said, this isn’t your only option. So below is our recommended list of do’s and don’ts if you want to wear something different.

Wear:

  • Fitted designer jeans without excessive rips or tears
  • Dress slacks or khakis
  • A fitted collared, dress, or button-up shirt
  • Dress boots or shoes
  • Tailored suits
  • Blazers or sports coats
  • On-trend shoes or loafers
  • Designer sneakers*
  • Fitted single color or trendy T-shirts
  • Stylish jackets
  • Stylish hats like fedoras or berets
  • Watches
  • A belt
  • Modest jewelry

* These need to be trendy and stylish, otherwise it won’t work.

Don’t Wear:

Tops/Shirts:

  • Tank tops
  • Alethitic attire
  • Cutoffs
  • Jerseys
  • Sweat shirts
  • Casual t-shirts with large logos or crazy prints
  • Hoodies

Bottoms & Pants:

  • Shorts
  • Loose fitting or baggy jeans
  • Sweatpants

Shoes:

  • Work boots
  • Athletic sneakers or tennis shoes (Jordans, Vans, Chucks, etc)
  • Sandals/Flip-flops

Acessories:

  • Largey, heavy chains
  • Sports hats or caps
  • Beanies
  • Sunglasses

General Tips

  1. Two people wearing similar attire will often receive different reactions from the bouncers and club staff at the door. And this fact is especially true when it comes to the bigger venues like OMNIA, Hakkasan, and Marquee. You will see many people walking into the club that violates the dress code and do so without issues, us included. These people are likely high-rollers, celebrities/influencers, friends of the staff, regulars, or other people who work in the Vegas nightlife industry, like promoters or hosts. So the bouncers will quickly bend the rules for these people without questions. But this is merely a fact of how Vegas nightclubs operate, so don’t take it personally if you see this happening. And don’t get upset or point out this unfairness if a host or doorman mentions your outfit isn’t up to the dress code standard. It will only annoy them.
  2. Even with the list outlined above, it’s also important to point out that not all Vegas nightclubs operate and adhere to the identical dress code. It’s up to each of the staff at the door to determine what meets their current standards. And those standards are always subject to change. With that said, if you’re ever unsure whether a particular article of clothing will be acceptable, it’s always best to play it safe, especially if this is your first trip to Vegas. It’s just not worth risking being called out in line and rejected. It’ll be an enormous hassle and probably ruin your night.
  3. The doormen at these venues are also highly aware of how intoxicated guests are in the line. And if you come to the club too drunk, they will immediately deny you entry. So, we’d suggest skipping drinking beforehand if you become belligerent.

Conclusion

The dress codes in Vegas are understandable, considering these nightclubs attract some of the most famous DJs worldwide and thousands of celebrities every year. The result is a once-in-a-lifetime party. So it makes sense that they’d want their environments to be classy and high-end. And the dress code policy does just that.

Thankfully, you now know to dress appropriately so that you and your friends can experience the infamous Vegas nightclub scene without issues. So it’s time to hit the clubs.
